The first story happens when one of her new neighbors covets Maud’s larger apartment. ![]() One of the things that Maud had always wanted to do was travel so now she is able to go around the world to all of the places she has wanted to see.Įach story is a short period of time in Maud’s life. After Maud’s retirement from teaching and the death of her sister, Maud is able to do whatever she wants. Also caring for her mentally troubled sister for years enabled them to collect money from the state. Being able to save all of the money that would have gone to housing, Maud was able to save quite a nest egg. No one expected Maud to still be there 70 years later. The building sold with the clause that Maud, her sister, and their mother could all live there without paying rent. She has been able to live rent-free in her apartment since her father’s death when she was a teenager. Maud is not your typical 88-year-old woman.
